PowerUp CPU/NET and buy RAM

Last updated: October 10, 2026

Short answer
On Vaulta, every transaction spends CPU (processing time) and NET (bandwidth), and account data takes up RAM (storage). If a transaction fails for lack of CPU or NET, use PowerUp: it rents both from the system for 1 day for a small fee in A. If an action fails because the account is out of storage, buy RAM, which you keep until you sell it. In Blocksfinity, PowerUp is at Wallet, Power up and RAM is at Wallet, RAM.
CPU, NET, and RAM explained
  • CPU is the processing time a transaction uses. It is the resource accounts run out of most often.
  • NET is bandwidth, the bytes a transaction sends. It is usually needed in smaller amounts than CPU.
  • RAM is storage. Token balances, contract tables, and the account itself live in RAM. A new account with a standard key needs about 3 KB just to exist.
On your own account page, Blocksfinity flags resources as tight when CPU or NET drops below 2% available, or RAM below 5 KiB free, and links straight to the tools below.
How to PowerUp CPU and NET
  1. Sign in and open /wallet/rent.
  2. Pick the kind of transaction you plan to send (Normal, Swap, ZK, Medium, or Large) and how many. The tool fills in the CPU and NET fractions for you.
  3. Set the receiver. It defaults to you, but you can power up any account.
  4. Check Max payment. Blocksfinity reads the live PowerUp market and suggests 25% above the current fee. The chain charges only the actual fee, never more than this cap.
  5. Confirm the details and sign in your wallet.
The rental lasts 1 day, the length the system contract sets on mainnet. You can pay in A, which goes through the `core.vaulta` contract, or in EOS. The PowerUp price rises as more of the shared pool is rented, so check the quote right before you sign. If the account has no CPU at all, keep payment in A so the Blocksfinity resource provider can cosign the rental.
How to buy or sell RAM
  1. Open /wallet/ram and choose Buy RAM or Sell RAM.
  2. To buy, set the RAM receiver, then enter either a token amount or an exact number of bytes. The page shows a live estimate of what you get or pay.
  3. To sell, enter the bytes to sell. The page shows RAM bought, RAM in use, and RAM available. You can only sell RAM you are not using.
  4. Review the confirmation and sign.
RAM is priced by an on-chain market, so the price moves with supply and demand. The system contract takes a 0.5% fee on every buy and every sell. Buying RAM spends A and selling it returns A to the selling account, minus that fee. RAM is storage, not a yield product.
PowerUp, stake, or REX
  • PowerUp: a fee for 1 day of CPU and NET. Nothing is locked. Good for light or occasional use.
  • Stake: lock A to CPU or NET with Allocate. It lasts until you unstake, and unstaked A returns after 3 days.
  • RAM: buy once, keep it, sell it later with a 0.5% fee each way. Only needed for storage.
  • REX: lend idle A to the pool that funds resource rentals. See the REX guide.
Common mistakes
  • Buying RAM to fix a CPU error. RAM does not add CPU. Read the error: CPU or NET errors need PowerUp or stake.
  • Max payment too low. The transaction fails with "Cost exceeds max payment." Raise the cap or rent less.
  • Asking for more than the market has. If the pool is short, choose smaller amounts and try again.
  • Unstaking twice. A new unstake restarts the 3 day wait for everything already refunding.
  • Wrong receiver. Resources go to the receiver you enter. A PowerUp or RAM purchase cannot be reversed.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between PowerUp and buying RAM?
PowerUp rents CPU and NET, which every transaction spends. RAM is storage for account data. If a transaction fails for lack of CPU or NET, PowerUp. If an action fails because the account is out of RAM, buy RAM.
How long does a PowerUp last on Vaulta?
One day. The system contract sets the rental length, and on mainnet it is 1 day. The Blocksfinity Power up tool always uses that value. After it expires, rent again if you still need resources.
How much does a PowerUp cost?
The chain sets the fee from how much of the shared CPU and NET pool is in use, so it changes over time. Blocksfinity reads the live market, fills Max payment at 25% above the current fee, and the chain charges only the actual fee.
My account has 0 CPU. How can it pay for a PowerUp?
Pay in A. The Blocksfinity resource provider can cosign so the rental lands even with empty CPU. If that is unavailable, pay in EOS, or ask another account to power you up by entering your account as the receiver.
Is there a fee to buy or sell RAM?
Yes. The system contract takes 0.5% on every RAM buy and every RAM sell, rounded up. The price itself comes from an on-chain market and moves with supply and demand.
Can I PowerUp or buy RAM for another account?
Yes. Both tools have a receiver field. You pay and sign, and the other account gets the CPU, NET, or RAM. RAM sales always pay out to the account that sells.
Should I stake or PowerUp?
PowerUp costs a small fee and lasts one day, with no locked tokens. Staking locks A to CPU or NET for as long as you keep it there, and unstaked A takes 3 days to come back. Light or occasional use usually suits PowerUp.
